I worked the Short Track World Qualifier last night at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City. Competion included 35 countries. Last night was the 1000m Ladies and Men's Qualifier Races. I did get to see a few of the Men's heats and one Ladies' heat. It was awesome to watch the skaters flying across the ice at 35 miles per hours. The track is not big, the size of a hockey rink. There were some "famous" people attending. Bonnie Bell, gold medal winner in skating, Ron Nelson, 60's skater and now scout for speed skating, John Stockton of the Utah Jazz, and the governer of Utah.
I'm glad I got to work this event. I feel much more comfortable with my job now that I have actually done it under real conditions. Oh, I forgot to mention the great dinner they had for volunteers. Bar-b-qued chicken, steamed zuccini and yellow squash, wild rice, onion rolls, green salad, and lucious brownies. Drinks were coffee, water, and every Coke product (one of the Olympic sponsors).
