I attended an orientation for volunteers working the Short Track World Qualifier to be held at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City on October 25-28. I will be working in Print Distribution as a supervisor on Oct. 27. More than 150 athletes will be competing from over 30 countries. Among them are the top Olympic and World Team members from the United States, Canada, Japan and China. They will be competing in ladies' and men's 1500, 1000, 500 meter races and relays. Oct. 17 will be the 1000 meter competion. Also attending these events will be 25-50 accredited internation journalists and photographers. Our orientation involved going over basic Olympic policies and one specific to this venue, a layout of how things will be set up at the Delta Center, security, job assignments. During the orientation door prizes were given out too. This venue is not only training for those who will be working this event during the Olympics, but enables those like me to get some extra hands on training under real conditions.
