Last week I was asked to come interview for a new volunteer position. On Monday, August 6 I went to the SLOC headquarters in Salt Lake for the interview. Today I got the good news. I have been selected to be a Print Distribution Assistant Supervisor for the Curling Venue at the Ogden Ice Sheet. Print distribution includes all the computers, printers, and personnel needed to distribute any printed copy done on site. This will include updates for the judges, coaches and competitors, media release information, news and updates for the volunteers. I start training next Wednesday evening at SLOC headquarters. So keep checking here for updates.

Wow my new job is going to be busy and exciting. There are 6 supervisors (some of us are called assistants because human resources won't let them schedule 2 supervisors on the same shift) we will work in pairs doing either a morning or afternoon shift. The shifts will be set up later.
Last night we got an overview of the print operation, staffing, and our responsibilities. We found out we will be doing all the reports printing needed for curling. There are reports before each day's competition, at the end of each round of competition throught the day and at the end of the day. My responsibilities are to manage the print team, printing, copying and delivery of reports. These reports go to the broadcast and print media, judges, teams, and all officials. There is a lot to learn in the next few months. My free time will be busy with training. Here's my schedule:
Oct. 1 Failover Training (what if the software or equipment crash) 6-10pm Oct. 9 Application Training (learn the printing application) 6-10pm Oct. 22 Technical rehersal #1 - Delta Center - World Ice Short Track Event 5-7pm Oct. 25 World Ice Short Track Event - Delta Center 5:30-11pm These events in October are Olympic qualifying events and will be held from October 26-28 at the Salt Lake Ice Center (Delta Center), the Olympic venue, to determine how many berths each nation will receive in each distance. It's up to each participating nation to identify specific skaters to fill those berths after they are won. An athlete must have had their 15th birthday by July 1, 2001 to be Olympic-eligible.
